Re:
Annual dues equivalent to one-half hour to CAW Skilled Trades Council.
In 1991
at the CAW Constitutional Convention in Halifax Nova Scotia, the CAW Constitution adopted
a dues assessment on skilled trades members
amounting to one-half hour's pay per year. The dues provide the financial
resources for the CAW Skilled Trades Council and its area sub-councils.
Sixty percent (60%) of the dues stay in the Area Sub-council and
forty percent (40%) goes to the CAW Skilled Trades Council.
It should be noted, that none of the dues go to the CAW National
Union.
The CAW
Skilled Trades Council is composed of sixteen
(16) Area Sub-councils across Canada. The workers at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg belong to
the Manitoba Area Sub-council. Don Beavis
who is a CAW member with CN in Winnipeg (Transcona), will
provide information that can be posted in your workplace for
upcoming Manitoba Area Sub-council Meetings that are usually
held at 1376 Grant Street, Winnipeg. Don can be contacted at
204-231-7666. The delegates to the CAW Skilled Trades
Council are elected skilled trades rank and file journeymen/women
from CAW workplaces or from an Area Sub-council from
across Canada.
The CAW
Skilled Trades Council provides a strong voice for skilled trades in the CAW,
a voice that is heard and acted upon.
Dennis
Wray, from CN Transcona was the past CAW Skilled Trades
Council President and NEB member, providing a direct voice
for skilled trades Manitoba workers.

solidarity,
